What came back ranged from gallery quality to genuine nightmare fuel, and the spread had almost nothing to do with which website we used and everything to do with which model rendered the image. How We Ranked Them
Every model family got the same test battery: a solo anthro pinup, an explicit two character scene, a nonhuman anatomy check, and a fur texture close up. We scored four things: anatomy accuracy, explicit compliance (does the model render the act or quietly chicken out), fur quality, and prompt obedience. We ran hosted versions on the platforms in our furry AI image generator directory, so these results reflect what you actually get in a browser, not a tuned local setup. Each category took a one to five score from two of us working independently, and we averaged the sheets at the end. Not laboratory science, but consistent enough that the winners separated fast.
1. Pony: The Anatomy King
Pony took first place, and on the anatomy tests it was not close. Muzzles connect properly, digitigrade legs bend the right way, tails attach where tails should attach, and explicit anatomy comes out species appropriate instead of copied off a human. Explicit compliance is total: Pony trained on booru data with content rating tags, so rating_explicit delivers exactly what it promises. The weakness is style, since base Pony carries a default cartoonish look that needs LoRAs to escape. 2. Illustrious: The Style Champion

3. SDXL: The Base Everyone Builds On
Stock SDXL is the foundation Pony and Illustrious were finetuned from, and used raw it ranks third by a wide margin. It renders beautiful realistic humans and gorgeous backgrounds, but ask for an anthro character and you usually get a person in a costume with human facial structure poking through the fur. Uncensored SDXL checkpoints go explicit without complaint, the results just are not very furry. The rescue is LoRAs. A furry LoRA stacked on SDXL closes part of the gap, which is exactly what the big finetunes did at industrial scale. But if you are choosing where to spend render credits, jumping straight to Pony or Illustrious beats rebuilding their training one LoRA at a time.
4. Flux: Gorgeous and Reluctant
Flux produces the best lighting, texture, and fine detail of anything we tested, and it understands natural sentence prompts better than any booru trained model. Two problems hold it back for adult anthro work. Explicit compliance is the weakest of the four, with renders drifting tasteful when we asked for filthy, and its anthro anatomy knowledge runs thinner than Pony’s.
